Well its been absolutely STINKING hot here.
We've had so much rain (although not as much as further north) & its been very humid the last few days. Too hot & sticky to even think about sewing.
Today though, my last day off before heading back to work after the christmas break, I decided to get this yellow top made, regardless of the weather.
I have a trip to Melbourne next weekend with the new BF, so wanted something nice to take with me.
The pattern is an old favourite, New Look 6520. OOP, but if you're lucky you might be able to score one on Ebay, Etsy or the like.
Rummaging thru the pattern stash I came across this one & decided to give it another burl.
I made some of these tops a few years ago, & really liked them then too (made 2 of view D & 1 view C).
Since then they've shrunk tho (wink!) so had to grade up a size. No biggie.
(back then I didn't trace off my patterns, just cut the size I wanted. Now we trace so we've got the option of making other sizes, either for my changing shape or for other people)
I didn't deviate from the pattern, just made a straight view D top.
The lightweight satin I've used is a lovely summery sunshine yellow, picking up the last available metre on the roll.
The pattern actually called for 1.2m of fabric, but it didn't take much fiddling to get it out of a metre.
I did a fine rolled hem on the frilly bits.
- To do that I first sewed 1/4" away from the edge.
- Then turned this over on the stitching line & stitched close to the edge again.
- I then trimmed away the excess fabric as close to the stitching as I could, then turned & stitched close to the edge again.
Overall it turned out as expected & I'm really happy with it.
Am planning on wearing it with my recently made dark denim Jalie jeans, so hopefully it will look good.
